Utah State recently completed their 105,000 sq ft Aggie Recreation Center (ARC) after 7 years of planning, funding and building. The look and feel of the building were very important to the planners, who spent a great deal of time working on the interior design and environmental graphics.

“We’ve got the state of Utah in a building,” said Chase Ellis, campus recreation director at USU. “Because it looks like you’re coming in a slot canyon on the south entrance … it will take you on a walk through the environment we live in, but then I like that tell people, ‘You’ll be working out in an art studio, versus a gym.’”

To complete such an involved project, Utah State University turned to Vision Graphics, a provider of large and grand format products. Vision Graphics was hired to produce and install all of the graphics.

According to Gene Chambers, sales executive at Vision Graphics, “13,000 sq ft of wall coverings were produced as well as over 2,000 sq ft of window coverings.” Vision Graphics was also called upon to create, produce and install a custom element, the function of which is to give the feeling of being inside a yurt. This element was placed in the student lounge and offers a unique environmental element.

The installation of the graphics spanned a number of months as the construction of the different areas of the rec center was completed. The process began during the summer months when Vision Graphics was involved in the site surveys to create final measurements for the production-quality graphics.

Maverik, an aggressive owner-operator of convenience stores in the western states, has created a strong brand around “Adventure’s First Stop.” With locations in 7 states and employing over 4,000 people, Maverik is on an aggressive trajectory to reach 300 stores soon.

As part of the branding, Maverik is committed to building and operating locations that enhance the “adventure” message. Custom wall coverings are a major part of this overall focus. Maverik turned to the local custom wall covering specialist, SBR/Vision Graphics.

At the Clearfield location, the wall coverings were installed as part of a flash remodel, a re-decoration of an existing location which had not yet been updated to match the overall corporate look. SBR/Vision Graphics worked around the Maverik schedule to install the wall covering during actual hours of operation, without having to close the business for this installation activity.

One of the unique challenges was the beer cooler, a 150 sq ft room which was covered from floor to ceiling with materials made to perform in a near-freezing environment, with high humidity as a consideration. SBR/Vision Graphics was able to quickly install the vinyl substrate, allowing Maverik to quickly return their beer cooler to online status.

Cafe Rio, a chain of fresh restaurants featuring fresh Mexican Grill favorites, recently finished a re-branding effort. This initiative includes a new interior design theme which provides a more sophisticated, cleaner images and digital displays. The re-designed elements will work together to emphasize the company’s commitment to fresh, natural and delicious.

This new look is featured in one of the newest Utah locations, located at 6973 S 1300 E in Cottonwood Heights. This location replaces an older Cafe Rio location.

While the design met all expectations on paper, executing the design through production and installation required a partner who would be able to produce a large variety of graphic elements.

Vision Graphics (An SBR Technologies company) worked side-by-side with Cafe Rio from start to finish, suggesting substrates, overlams and mounting options. Rather than a canned package of signs and art, Vision Graphics worked with Cafe Rio management to accommodate various challenges. Two examples included the fabric wall coverings and back-lit signs.

Cafe Rio wanted to add a fabric element to its walls, surrounding two of the new digital displays. These areas are high-traffic and require a finish to allow for durability and cleaning.

In the case of the back-lit signage, the case for the display use a bright LED and didn’t offer the customary depth.

Both cases presented challenges which needed to be solved in order to offer the desired environmental touch. In the case of the fabric, Vision Graphics brought its expertise to the table to offer the substrate and finish to meet the environmental needs while maintaining the look and feel. The back-lit signage was solved through a process of experimental production processes and the light was eventually diffused properly to achieve the correct look.

As Cafe Rio prepares to build new locations while remodeling its 80 current stores, Vision Graphics will continue to act as a trusted partner, working to ensure a look and feel the accomplishes the overall mission of the environmental look and feel.

A local home builder’s firm decided to enrich its corporate office lobby with custom wall graphics. In this case, they chose a theme of plans which would accentuate the environment while maintaining a clean and professional look.
