Vision Graphics Produces “Products” for the Light the World Vending Machines

Making a Visual Impact for a Noble Cause

During the 2017 Christmas season, as part of its “Light the World” campaign, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints placed two side-by-side vending machines on the streets of New York City, one with a sign that says “Get,” and the other, “Give.”

“What if people could give to someone in need instead of buying something for themselves?” the screen caption reads.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints placed similar vending machines in the lobby of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in Salt Lake City, Utah.

As seen in the video below, the idea was to give people a choice to either purchase something for themselves or to donate amounts of money to different causes, all of which would provide benefits to those in need around the world.

Vision Graphics helped The Church with this effort, providing the graphics for the exterior of the machines and creating the product tiles which reside within.

According to Roger Hendrickson, Account Representative, Western Region, “At first, the machines were stocked with small boxes representing the different products. While these gave the illusion of familiar vending machine products, they did not hold up very well during the repetitive purchase and restocking cycles.”

To help with this product, Vision Graphics produced product tiles, made out of a lightweight styrene-faced foam product. In this application, the product tiles were perfect as they were lightweight, more durable, resisted damage from the small fall within the machine, and they helped facilitate the re-stocking process.

Most importantly, the products effectively attracted the attention of passerby’s. According to church spokesman Daniel Woodruff, the vending machines logged 23,899 transactions and collected $469,085 in donations.

Vision Graphics is proud to have been selected over multiple years to produce the Times Square promotional campaigns for the church of Jesus Christ including the 2014 He Is The Gift, 2015 A Savior Is Born and 2016 Light The World efforts.
